“So Triggering” – Serena Williams Brutally Criticized By ‘Heartbroken’ Influencer For Promoting Weightloss Drug GLP1

Serena Williams has been under heavy criticism ever since she started promoting the GLP-1 weight-loss medication. Recently, an influencer who admitted being a fan of the American shared how disappointed she was with her promoting the weight loss drug.

The entire scenario started after Williams appeared in a Super Bowl advertisement for the telehealth company Ro. In this campaign, she shared her journey with the medication and was also seen using an injector pen. She revealed that she used the medication to help lose weight after her second daughter’s birth in 2023.

Her aim of reducing the stigma around using weight-loss drugs backfired, as she received a huge backlash online. Recently, one of the influencers shared her dismay over Williams supporting the GLP-1 medication and weighed in on the frequency of her ads on social media.

“These Serena Williams GLP-1 ads are so triggering to me, and this is coming from somebody who loves Serena Williams. It hurts me to even talk about this, but my following is primarily young women, and I need y’all to know that this whole like being constantly sold things to make you prettier or skinnier or better is not normal.” the influencer said.

    She added

“There are people who need that extra like oomph to lose weight, but it’s just so sad to see that infiltrate the world of sports. That’s how it’s particularly heartbreaking to me. Sports has always been like a body positive space because your body is so much more than what it looks like when it comes to sports. It’s your tool. It’s your tool to function at your highest in your sport, and Serena Williams, she’s the pinnacle of that.”

    She further said:

“But also that doesn’t mean that she’s not a woman and doesn’t want to be beautiful or doesn’t want help losing weight. And so like this isn’t her fault, you know what I’m saying? Like it’s not Serena Williams’ fault… It’s just like the promotion of it and like the reckless promotion of it on social media is so heartbreaking to me.”

Williams underwent a 31-pound weight loss journey with the GLP-1 medication.

Serena Williams on How GLP-1 Has Affected Her Health

In January 2026, Serena Williams sat for a conversation with Today.com, where she made her feelings known about her Super Bowl ad about the GLP-1 drugs. She revealed how it helped her health improve and how she witnessed significant changes in her body. Opening up about her better blood sugar, she also revealed how she bounced back from the risk of heart disease.

“My blood sugar is better. I was able to lower my cholesterol by 30%. Some of these numbers [previous high cholesterol levels] are from when I was literally winning Grand Slams. It wasn’t, like, just playing tennis. I was dominating. I was at risk for heart disease, and I didn’t even know. … That’s scary,” said Serena Williams.

Serena Williams was recently also accused of skin bleaching after she posted pictures from Venus Williams’ wedding. Amid this, she received support from former college tennis player Alexis Robinson.
