Danielle Collins caught Martina Navratilova by surprise during their review of the 2026 Miami Open on Tennis Channel recently.
The program they were hosting showed a clip of the renowned late journalist Bud Collins and Collins claimed it was her uncle. She sounded so confident that Navratilova was taken by surprise, and so were the other two analysts. However, soon after, Collins cracked open, saying she was playing an April Fool’s joke on them.
“It’s an early April Fools, guys. We’re close to April 1st. I had to catch you guys at some point,” Collins said. Sorry. That was a big fail. I totally cracked myself up. I was believable for a second.”
Navratilova had an awkward reaction after the whole thing as she missed less interested to understand what was going on and tried playing through it.
Fans saw the clip and shared distasteful reactions towards both Collins and Navratilova.
“just bitter and old,” one fan wrote.
“Please get Collins off air. It’s pathetic and painful. Nobody is interested in her low class whatever,” one fan ranted.
“2 mean girls in different fonts,” another user remarked.
“They are turning tennis into a circus with the clown Collins at the desk and it’s pathetic,” a viewer commented.
“It’s one thing to bring fun and something less stuffy to the broadcast, but this whole schtick like she’s an influencer or celeb just doesn’t hit. She’s trying too hard and it’s inauthentic,” another fan observed.
“@Martina should have put this nobody in her place. Danielle Collins is insufferable,” one critic added.
“I always rooted for Danielle on the court and listening to her on tennis channel is making me regret it,” one fan reacted.
Danielle Collins’ Tennis Channel Stint a Mixed Bag of Emotions
Danielle Collins is biding her time behind the mic while she recovers from her back injury and gets back on the tour. The 2024 Miami Open champion has been associated with Tennis Channel regularly of late to review the Masters tournament.
While traditionally, tennis players’ analysts are expected to bring analysis-heavy commentary with a respectful and reserved tone. But with Collins, the commentary has also included personal anecdotes, humor and sarcasm and a more influencer-style presence.
She even claimed that Corentin Moutet had flirted with her and added that he would need to have a bigger serve in order to impress her. However, Moutet has strongly denied these claims and publicly criticized Collins.
The above reactions suggest that Collins’ commentary is not working with the majority of them.
