Coco Gauff has recently been scheduled for Court 2 for her opening match at the Wimbledon Championships. This decision to put her away from the Centre Court has sparked debate among fans, drawing mixed reactions.
Gauff was last seen in action at the Berlin Open, where she suffered an early exit in her opening round. She was defeated by Paula Badosa, who won two out of three sets to claim a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory. Following her brief run in Berlin, she has now shifted her focus to the Wimbledon Championships, which is slated to commence from June 29, 2026.
The American is entering the tournament as world no. 7 and has been scheduled to play her opening round on Court 2 rather than the Centre Court. The limited day 1 slots on the main court have reportedly been reserved for top-ranked players, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and others. Centre Court in the opening rounds is reserved for defending champions and the highest-ranked players.
The 22-year-old is set to face Tamara Korpatsch in the first round of the Grand Slam on June 29 on Court 2. The release of this schedule has sparked plenty of reactions online, with fans divided over the decision. Coco Gauff opened up about playing at the Wimbledon Championships
Just days before the start of the Wimbledon Championships, Coco Gauff sat down for a conversation with Wimbledon, where she weighed in on competing in the tournament. The American admitted that she hasn’t had the best relationship with the grass-court major but expressed confidence in her ability to perform well there.
“We don’t have the best relationship. But, no, I always have fond memories on the grass. I obviously had a couple fourth rounds here. I definitely think that I have the ability to play on it. I think it’s more about the confidence. Also, I’m not going to lie, I haven’t had the best draws here at Wimbledon. I think that’s also been tough. Yeah, something that I’m learning to play on. I don’t think it’s a natural surface for me, but we’re going to make it natural,” said Coco Gauff.
She further opened up about the key areas she has been focusing on for the Wimbledon Championships.
