After 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal laughed at coach Patrick Mouratoglou’s take that Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are probably better than Big 3, also including Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, the tennis coach is receiving immense backlash on the internet.
Tennis commentator and journalist Jose Morgado posted the picture of Mouratoglou’s reaction reel and Nadal’s reaction underneath.
“Nadal on Mouratoglou’s video where Patrick suggests that Sinncaraz play better level of tennis than the Big 3,” Morgado wrote.
Mouratoglou light-heartedly commented:
“Next time choose a better picture please Jose.”
A user named Carlo Cocca responded to the thread, accusing the coach of having an incredible “ego.” Mouratoglou didn’t like it one bit as he went personal against the user. He wrote:
“Much bigger than you intellect for sure. 2nd degree is clearly too much for you.”
It appears the tennis coach will not take any trolling comments after he made controversial remarks while comparing the level of play Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have shown over the last two years with the Big 3’s dominance for the better part of the last two decades.
What Patrick Mouratoglou Said That Made Rafael Nadal Laugh?
Patrick Mouratoglou has time and again continued to show support towards Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner against detractors who claim that the level of competition currently in the ATP is not the same as it was during the time of Big 3. He has often cited the level of skills the top two-ranked stars have shown and alleged they were an evolution and to some extent are even better than Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Mouratoglou’s latest comments came after Novak Djokovic, despite being 38, defeated Sinner in the semifinals of the Australian Open. However, Mouratoglou said this match shouldn’t be considered as an example to deduce that Big 3 were better than Alcaraz or Sinner.
“For those who think that Djokovic beating Sinner in the semi-final of the Australian Open means that the Big Three are playing better tennis than Alcaraz and Sinner, this is a very short-sighted view. Let me explain,” Mouratoglou said. “Just remember that Sinner had won the five previous matches they played against each other. One match will not make me change my mind about what I’ve seen over the last two or three years.
“Jannik moves faster, hits harder, takes the ball earlier, and serves better than Novak. But Novak has the strongest mentality in the history of tennis, and that’s what made the difference. That’s what has defined his entire career. Sinner won 12 more points throughout the whole match than Novak, but he lost because Novak won the big points, the ones that mattered most. Novak is not a better tennis player than Sinner, but he is the greatest competitor in history, and he was better than Jannik Sinner in that match.”
Nadal laughed at this reaction in the comments section. He has often said that until Alcaraz and Sinner retire, one should not compare them with the Big 3.
