Novak Djokovic’s Savage ‘Thank You’ Message To Critics Who Already ‘Retired’ Him After Epic Sinner Win In Australian Open SF

Novak Djokovic continues to defy time at the 2026 Australian Open, reaching the final at 38. In the process, he has sent a clear message to those who, in recent years, have suggested that retirement may not be far away.

Djokovic’s run in Melbourne began with a straight-sets victory over Pedro Martinez, followed by wins against Francesco Maestrelli and Botic van de Zandschulp. He then advanced to the semifinals after receiving back-to-back walkovers from Jakub Mensik and Lorenzo Musetti. Standing between him and the final was defending champion Jannik Sinner, whom Djokovic overcame in a thrilling five-set battle, winning 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Friday, January 30.

Asked in his post-match press conference about how he managed to flip the match in his favor, the Serb delivered a savage response. He said he was “thankful” to the so-called “experts” who have already written him off, adding that their comments only serve to make him even more “motivated.”

“I never stopped doubting,” Djokovic said. “I have never stopped believing in myself. There’s a lot of people that doubt me. I see there’s a lot of experts all of a sudden that wanted to retire me or have retired many times the last couple of years. But I wanna thank them all because they gave me strength. They gave me motivation to prove them wrong, which I have tonight.”

Retirement talk aside, Novak Djokovic’s final challenge now comes in the form of Carlos Alcaraz. The two will face off in the Australian Open final.

Novak Djokovic Makes His Feelings Clear On Taking On Carlos Alcaraz in Australian Open Final

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are both chasing history at this year’s Australian Open. Djokovic is aiming to become the oldest men’s singles champion of the Open Era, while Alcaraz is looking to complete the Career Grand Slam at just 22. The pair also crossed paths at Melbourne Park last year in the quarterfinals, where Djokovic emerged on top.

After his win over Jannik Sinner, Djokovic spoke about the prospect of facing Alcaraz in the final. He acknowledged that a lot is on the line and that age could give the Spaniard an advantage, but added that he is genuinely looking forward to the challenge.

“The finals of Grand Slam, there’s a lot at stake,” Djokovic said in his on-court interview. “I won against him last year here, also in a gruelling match, so let’s see how fresh are we both able to be. He also had a big, big match, but he’s got about 15, 16 years on me, so biologically, I think it’s gonna be a bit easier for him to recover, but I look forward to it.”

For now, the head-to-head between the two stands at 5–4 in Djokovic’s favor. Alcaraz will be eager to level it when they step onto the court at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday, February 1.
