Emma Raducanu seems to have made another addition to her ever-changing coaching staff. Raducanu has struggled to go deep into the tournaments since her high-flying 2021 season. As a result, she has constantly changing coaches, but to no good result.
However, her latest change inspires confidence from Martina Navratilova.
Raducanu is working again with Andrew Richardson, the coach who guided her to her historic 2021 US Open title. Raducanu was the first qualifier in history to win a Grand Slam as a qualifier without dropping a set.
The British tennis star has reportedly returned to training with Richardson at a tennis academy in Spain as she aims to do well in the clay season.
Upon learning about this coaching update, tennis legend Navratilova showed excitement with the following reaction:
“👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼”
One must note that this is not a permanent reunion. The arrangement could be short-term only. There is also a chance that Raducanu was just practicing with him for a bit.
Earlier this season, Raducanu parted ways with Francisco Roig and came up with an ad-hoc arrangement with Mark Petchey.
Emma Raducanu Shares Health Update
Emma Raducanu last played a tennis match against Amanda Anisimova at Indian Wells on March 8. Her season has been disrupted by injury and illness, forcing her to miss multiple tournaments already.
After being absent on social media for some weeks, Raducanu returned with a series of photos captioned:
“Spring Clean.”
Under the comments section when one fan showed concern and asked about her health, the Brit replied:
“Much better thank you.”
While there is no solid update on whether Raducanu has fully recovered from her illness, there’s a good chance we will see Raducanu back on the court. The Brit is targeting a return at the Italian Open in Rome to set herself up nicely before the French Open. If she participates in Rome, she will play as the 27th seed
Raducanu has played in Rome twice, in 2022 and last year. Four years ago, she retired against Bianca Andreescu while trailing 6-2, 1-2. Last year, she reached the fourth round, where she was defeated by Coco Gauff, 6-1, 6-2.
With the tournament starting on May 5th, Raducanu hopes to improve her results in Rome and get further than the fourth round.
