One of the greatest players to have ever stepped on the tennis court, Martina Navratilova mesmerized fans for over three decades since turning pro in 1974.
In her supremely successful career, Navratilova won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, a mammoth 31 Majors in women’s doubles, and another 10 in the mixed doubles discipline, which takes her combined tally to 59 Grand Slams.
No other player in the history of the sport has come close to fathoming the idea of chasing the overall Grand Slam tally of the great Czech-American. She bid adieu to the sport in 2006 after 32 years as a pro, finishing with a 1442-219 (86.82%) overall record in the singles discipline and 747-143 (83.93%) overall record in doubles.
With such a staggering winning record, the legend of the sport should have the freedom to brag publicly without fearing any backlash. Navratilova did the same recently in her reply to a fan on X, who asked if there was any player who had won both singles and doubles titles in a single tournament.
“Time to brag. I actually won singles and doubles in the same event 80 times. My most proud achievement.:),” wrote Navratilova in her reply to the question on X.
Martina Navratilova Triggers a Political Row With an Online Comment
Martina Navratilova is known for speaking her mind and raising her voice for serious issues. She voices strong opinions on sports and politics and challenges authorities. Recently, she backed sanctions on US oil companies operating in Venezuela, following a military crackdown, which led to an online storm.
“Any American oil company that expropriates oil from Venezuela should be sanctioned by the International Criminal Court.”
