Jimmy Connors’ Son Calls Out Harsh Reality For Carlos Alcaraz’s Ex-Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero After Spaniard’s Australian Open Win

Carlos Alcaraz has been in the headlines for his Australian Open triumph; however, not long ago he was in the news because of the split with his former coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero. The Spaniard parted ways with Ferrero sometime in December 2025.

The move stunned fans, analysts, and others in the tennis fraternity, as Ferrero has been training the Spaniard and guiding him through various situations since he was 15. Ferrero led Alcaraz to six major titles, alongside countless ATP titles, but now the Spaniard has moved on from his former coach and joined forces with Samuel Lopez.

In the latest episode of the Advantage Connors podcast, Jimmy Connors’ son, Brett, pointed out the harsh reality of the split between Alcaraz and JCF after the Spaniard went on to win the Australian Open. He also expressed his regret for the former coach, stating that he was involved in the World No. 1’s first Grand Slam triumph of the year.

“We have to also look at the Ferrero’s side. Where they get rid of Ferrero before the year starts, and then Carlos is able to go on and do this, he doesn’t miss him. But then you also feel for Ferrero a little bit where he has been with him for like 7 years,” Brett said.

“And then he just kind of gets pushed aside, and he [Carlos] then moves on right away and boom wins the next Major, the one that he hasn’t won yet. Feel like his [Ferrero] fingerprints are still all over this,” he added.

Carlos Alcaraz Addressed the Negative Criticism he Endured After the Split With Juan Carlos Ferrero

In an exclusive interview with El Mundo on his last day in Melbourne, Alcaraz answered multiple questions related to his maiden triumph at the Australian Open. The Spaniard also responded to a question about the split with his former coach and how he has endured the negative criticism since announcing it.

“As time goes by, I’ve become more aware of the power of words. Both a kind word and a harsh word can change a person’s mood. That’s why I always try to be very careful with what I say and how I say it,” Alcaraz said.

“Some of the negative things I read or heard affected me; I even had a few doubts. But I also want to say that the positive things filled me with pride and made me happy. Thank God there were more good things than bad,” he added.

Alcaraz, who is now enjoying much-deserved rest in Murcia, Spain, will be in action next at the Doha Open (ATP 500) on February 16.
