World No. 5 Coco Gauff has been dating Atlanta-based musician and songwriter Jalen Sera for almost three years. The duo are often seen sharing morale-boosting messages on social media and commenting on each other’s posts.
Last year, Sera was spotted in the stands cheering for Gauff throughout her matches at various WTA tournaments and Grand Slams. Sera and Gauff have a longstanding connection through the tennis star’s family, as her mother, Candi, used to teach Sera in the fourth grade.
On Tuesday, Sera shared a series of images in his latest social media post, captioned “Sundial.” Gauff quickly noticed the post and shared her excited reaction to her boyfriend’s new look.
“Frolicking, ☺️🧚” Gauff commented. “@cocogauff speed walking perhaps,” Sera replied.
Sera is often seen sharing encouraging messages with Gauff, especially after last year’s US Open and the Wuhan Open. He has also referred to Gauff as the “It Girl” and “My warrior” in other social media posts.
While the duo kept their relationship under the radar for some time, they started making public appearances together in March 2023. Sera didn’t accompany Gauff to Melbourne, where the 21-year-old lost in the quarterfinals.

Gauff had a fantastic start to her Australian swing, leading Team USA to the semifinals of the United Cup before playing mesmerizing tennis at Melbourne Park. Unfortunately, her valiant run at the Australian Open came to a disappointing end in the quarterfinals after Elina Svitolina breezed past the American in just 59 minutes, leaving fans and analysts stunned.
As a result of the loss, Gauff dropped down two spots in the official rankings and is now seeded fifth, which is the first time in more than a year that she has dropped out of the top 4.
While her stay at the current ranking might be short-lived, a lot will depend on how she fares in her next event, which will be the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha, starting on February 9.
