Kim Clijsters shared blunt opinions about Jannik Sinner, telling him to focus on his physical health by eating more shortly after his French Open heartbreak. The Italian suffered loss after struggling physically during the second round.
Sinner opened his Roland Garros campaign on May 27, where he locked horns with Clement Tabur. He delivered an impressive performance, claiming a 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 victory and advancing to the second round. In the next round, the world no. 1 contested against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, where he suffered a shocking second-round exit at the tournament after his opponent’s 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 win.
The first hour of the match was dominated by the Italian, and amid the match he suddenly experienced dizziness and severe physical fatigue, allowing the Argentine to make a comeback in the game. His sudden physical collapse led to his heartbreak at the French Open. Days after this upset, the former player Clijsters spoke about the world No. 1’s physical condition in her podcast ‘Love All.’
Highlighting his performance at the French Open, she said:
“Sinner is too skinny, how much energy does he really have? He needs to eat more,” said Clijsters.
She added:
“He’s strong, but he’s also very thin. How much does he really have in reserve?”Jannik is strong, but he’s very thin. It’s as if he doesn’t have much extra body mass. When he’s a little sick, how many reserves does he actually have? How much energy does he have left to say, ‘OK, I’m strong, I can keep fighting?'”
Jannik Sinner opened up about the struggles he faced at the French Open
After losing to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round of Roland Garros, Jannik Sinner sat for a post-match press conference, where he was asked about the details of what happened from the point when he was 5-1 up. Responding to this, he said that he didn’t have a lot of energy during the showdown and all of a sudden started feeling dizzy.
“I struggled starting to feel very dizzy. Very low of energy and tried to serve it out but didn’t have a lot of energy. Fourth set I let it go a little bit trying to have a bit more energy in the fifth. Um very important game. the first one couldn’t hold and then it went all a bit downwards but yeah woke up this morning didn’t feel very well and tried to keep the the points very short most in the beginning I was hitting very clean very good and and then I just kind of hit the wall and that’s it,” said Jannik Sinner.
Before the French Open, Jannik Sinner became only the second man in the Open Era to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 tournament titles. He won the Career Golden Masters after winning the Italian Open, joining Novak Djokovic in the achievement.
