Jannik Sinner Bluntly Shuts Down Question On His Undefeated Streak After History-Making Madrid Open Title

Jannik Sinner has been on a roll this past few months. After beating Alexander Zverev (for the ninth straight time) in the 2026 Madrid Open final, Sinner extended his winning streak to 23 consecutive matches. During this stretch, Sinner also dethroned Carlos Alcaraz from the World No. 1 spot.

With Alcaraz out of Rome and the French Open, Sinner may be unstoppable this month as well. This unprecedented run had one fan asking if the Italian doesn’t lose any match this season. Sinner gave him a brutal reality check.

“No, it’s not possible,” Sinner said. “It’s unnecessary to talk about it.”

This was Sinner’s way of suggesting that he is only human. Even though he may be a level above the rest of the ATP field, mistakes are bound to happen at some stage of the season. However, it doesn’t look like Sinner can lose anytime soon, though.

Jannik Sinner Makes Tennis History With Madrid Open Win

Jannik Sinner easily defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev, 6-1, 6-2, to achieve an unprecedented feat in tennis.

Dating back to his Paris Masters win last year, Sinner has now won five consecutive Masters events, becoming the first player in tennis to ever do so. This Masters’ winning streak includes title wins at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid.

Previously, Novak Djokovic has won four straight ATP 1000 tournaments thrice and Rafael Nadal did it once in 2023. Moreover, Djokovic has won five Masters events consecutively twice, but in both of those times, he missed some Masters events in between, making Sinner’s feat separate.

After the win against Zverev, Sinner said:

“I think there is a lot of work behind it. A lot of dedication and sacrifice I put in every day. Obviously, it means a lot to me, seeing these results. At some point, results are going to be down, which is normal. I’m very happy that I’ve continued to believe in myself. I’m showing up every day, at every practice session, trying to put in the right work with the right discipline.”

Next up in Rome, Sinner has a chance to tie Djokovic’s feat of winning all nine Masters events in a year if he manages to win the Rome Masters starting next week. Last year at the Italian Open, Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final. With the Spaniard out of the tournament, Sinner’s odds to win in Rome are high.
