Serena Williams did not attend the post-match press conference after her early Wimbledon exit. Her decision to skip the media duties sparked backlash from fans, with many taking to social media to express their frustration and criticize the move.
Williams played her first singles match since returning to the sport after an almost four-year break at the All England Club. Serena Williams opened up about her new version in 2026
Before competing against Maya Joint in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships, Serena Williams spoke with the BBC’s host Clare Balding in a pre-match interview. While reflecting on her return to the All England Club after four years, she was asked what she has in 2026 that previous versions of herself did not have. Responding to this, the American said:
“Well, I have two amazing kids. I think that’s the best thing I have right now that I didn’t have then. I definitely have a lot of experience on my side and I have a lot of championships, where I don’t feel the pressure to do anything except for have fun and enjoy myself and enjoy the moment,” said Serena Williams.
Further opening up about if her newfound belief has made her free on the court, she added:
“I don’t know, I think so. I’m never a free person in general. You’ve seen me play, I play like a maniac. So we will see. As of now I am calm, but I might change in a matter of minutes, who knows?”
After the early heartbreak in the singles, Serena Williams is now scheduled to compete in Wimbledon doubles alongside her sister, Venus Williams. The pair will face Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio in the first round on July 2, 2026.
