Chris Evert shared a sweet reaction to Naomi Osaka’s Wimbledon outfit while continuing her cancer recovery journey. The former tennis player recently revealed that her ovarian cancer returned for a third time.
The Wimbledon Championships main draw commenced on Monday, June 29, and one of the moments that grabbed significant attention was Osaka’s tribute to her Japanese heritage in her opening match. She arrived at the All England Club wearing a classy full-length kimono, designed entirely in white according to the tournament’s strict dress code.
After turning heads with her elegant outfit, Osaka took on Elsa Jacquemot in the first round and secured a straight-sets (6-1, 7-5) victory. Shortly after this triumph, she shared a bunch of pictures of her kimono on Instagram, highlighting the intricate details of the outfit.
The outfit caught the attention of Evert, who is currently on her cancer recovery journey. Sharing her admiration for the Japanese’s outfit, she commented:
“Beautiful.”

Evert is battling ovarian cancer for the third time, recently revealing that the disease had returned following abnormal CT and PET scans. Her cancer journey began after a family tragedy, when her sister passed away from late-stage ovarian cancer in February 2020. After suggestions from doctors, the 18-time Grand Slam singles champion underwent a preventative hysterectomy in 2021, and pathology reports unexpectedly revealed Stage 1C ovarian cancer in her fallopian tube.
In May 2022, she completed her six rounds of chemotherapy, and in December, she underwent a preventative double mastectomy due to BRCA1 risks. After a year, a routine scans detected a second diagnosis in her pelvis. After finishing her second round of chemotherapy sessions in 2023, a third recurrence of the disease was detected in June 2026.
Chris Evert opened up about her third cancer diagnosis
Chris Evert recently took to Instagram to reveal that she had been diagnosed with cancer for a third time following recent CT and PET scans. Making her feelings known about this unfortunate development and stepping away from her professional commitments, she said that her full focus is now on her health. She also announced that she would not be attending Wimbledon this year, writing:
“I have always believed in being open and honest about my health journey. This past weekend, after undergoing CT and PET scans, I learned that my ovarian cancer has returned. I have already undergone surgery as the first step in my treatment and recovery, and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks. Because of this, I will not be attending Wimbledon this year, and I will step back from my professional commitments over the next few months to focus on my health,” wrote Chris Evert.
She added:
“Ovarian cancer is relentless, but I will stay optimistic and determined in continuing to fight this battle. I am deeply grateful to my medical team, my family, friends, and everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement. I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”
