Former WTA pro and 2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard has backed current American No. 1 Coco Gauff to find her rhythm on court at the Indian Wells Open and make a decent run in the WTA 1000 event, which starts on March 2 in California. The sunrise swing is upon us, with two blockbuster Masters 1000 events in the United States.
During her latest appearance on the Tennis Channel, Bouchard joined other tennis pros to announce their picks for the WTA 1000 event at Indian Wells, California. The former World No. 5 explained during the conversation why she was backing Gauff to find her form again at the event.
“Coco has had an underwhelming start to the year by her standards, but she started to pick up her form in Dubai, where she reached the semifinals. The conditions in Indian Wells should really suit her game,” Bouchard said.
While Gauff has had a dissapointing 2026 so far, she has begun to find some faint rhythm on court after reaching the Dubai Open semifinals in the Middle East swing. It remains to be seen whether the defending Roland Garros champion can conjure some good performances against the top seeds at Indian Wells to get her season back on track before the clay-court swing.
Besides Coco Gauff, Eugenie Bouchard Named Another Rising Star Who Could Do Well in Indian Wells
Bouchard has named another rising star in women’s tennis, who is having a tremendous 2026 season marked by excellent runs at the Australian Open and subsequent WTA events. Besides backing Gauff, Bouchard praised fellow Canadian teenage sensation Victoria Mboko for making a good run at the Indian Wells Open.
“She just broke into the Top 10 and has already reached two WTA 1000 finals, winning my home tournament up in Canada last summer. Heading into Indian Wells, I truly believe the sky’s the limit!” Bouchard said in her analysis.
The main draw begins on Monday EST, a week after which there will be two WTA 125 events, followed by the top seeds locking horns again at the WTA 1000 event in Miami, which starts on March 16.
