Emma Raducanu has claimed her maiden triumph of the 2026 season with a bang at the Hobart International. After her convincing first round win at the event, the Brit recently gave fans a clear picture of where she is at in her game and expressed that she has some work to do ahead of her upcoming matches.
Raducanu began her season at the United Cup that took place earlier this month. Hampered by some light bone bruising in her foot, the 22-year-old lost out to Maria Sakkari in Perth. However, the former US Open champion has quickly turned things around. This week, she is competing as the top seed in Hobart and her opening round saw her defeat Camila Osorio in straight sets. Reflecting on her win, the tennis star told media,
“The conditions have been challenging; wind, rain, hot, cold, but it’s actually been really good preparation. I wouldn’t say I’m exactly where I want to be yet. There’s still a lot of work to do, but I’m proud of how I’ve competed despite not feeling my best.”
With rough conditions in Hobart, Raducanu’s opening round came with plenty of challenges as players were forced to halt the match multiple times due to rain. However, the Brit dealt with the unexpected challenge in a deft manner and kept her claim throughout the delays to claim a dominant win.
Emma Raducanu reflects on her ‘incredibly’ important win ahead of the Australian Open
After her win over Camila Osorio at the Hobart International, Emma Raducanu made it clear that her focus was now on her upcoming matches. The Brit also emphasised the importance of her win, telling media,
“Now it’s about recovering well, freshening up, and getting ready for tomorrow. This win is incredibly important for me. I haven’t played much over the last few months, so getting a win early in the year, especially heading into the Australian Open, means a lot.”
Emma Raducanu is next scheduled to return to action on Thursday, January 15 for her quarterfinals encounter at the Hobart International. The youngster will take on home player Taylah Preston for the match.
