Coco Gauff’s ex-coach, Brad Gilbert, recently took a jab at legendary basketball player LeBron James after his potential move to the Golden State Warriors this offseason. Along with the basketball icon, the Los Angeles Clippers Kawhi Leonard is also likely to join the veteran forward.
Gauff’s former coach, however, opined that adding $800 million worth of James to the Warriors’ team would be a terrible decision and added that Leonard would be a good fit. He slammed James for constantly complaining to referees during faceoffs. He mentioned that James’ constant exaggeration and frequent falls during the games annoy him.
Sharing his opinion, Gilbert wrote:
“Would be a complete dumpster fire to bring Laflopoer would only make the Dubs significantly worse, Leonard would be interesting but dubs 1st priority get younger and more athletic wings and figure out how to to rid of Disastrous Green.”
His statement did not land well with a fan, who called his remarks “lazy” and biased and compared them to how some critics always bash Novak Djokovic. To which Gauff’s coach boldly stated that LeBron’s style is not comparable to the Serb’s excellence.
“Can’t compare Laflopper to Djoker,” Gilbert wrote.
Gauff won her first Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open under coach Gilbert’s guidance.
Coco Gauff States What She Admires About Aryna Sabalenka After Her Loss At The Miami Open
Coco Gauff gave her best result of the 2026 year by reaching the final round of the Miami Open, where she locked horns against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Following the match, Gauff praised her opponent’s confidence, while stating that she, too, had a similar moment in her career. Further, the young American player highlighted her goal of building that feeling again.
“Aryna, she trusts her game, I think, 100 per cent, and trusts herself, and when you’re playing like that, it’s so easy to play,” the 22-year-old explained, “I have had moments in my career where I felt very similar, where you just feel like, no matter what happens today, you’re going to win.”
“I felt like that going in today, but it didn’t happen. When you’re playing someone who has probably had that feeling the whole year versus me, who is just trying to find that feeling this week. I think the more weeks I have like this one – even despite the result – the more weeks I have like this, those results will come my way.”
Sabalenka overpowered Gauff with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory in the final.
