Coco Gauff’s former coach, Brad Gilbert, shared a blunt reaction to LeBron James’ move to the Philadelphia 76ers after his exit from the Los Angeles Lakers.
James agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the 76ers, with a player option for the second season. His agent, Rich Paul, announced the deal on July 24, 2026, ending James’ eight-year stint with the Lakers and marking his return to the Eastern Conference for his record-breaking 24th NBA season.
Shortly after the announcement, Gilbert weighed in on the move on X. Pleased that James did not join the Golden State Warriors, he joked that he no longer had to boycott the team. He wrote:
“Was just hitting balls 🎾 when that LaFlopoer news 📰 popped so made my day, @SharkoTennis now don’t have to boycott the Dubs season, hopefully 🙏 this is crucial for Dubs to not resign Green let him fallow Laflopper @BontaHill.”

Gilbert also reacted to a video shared by an NBA insider discussing LeBron James’ desire to be known as the greatest player of all time. Responding to the post on X, he wrote:
“Memo 📝 he’s not in conversation for greatest ever no matter what he does in Philly, not in my top 5,philly season just went sideways.”
Taking another jab at LeBron James, Gauff’s former coach said that the Warriors “won,” adding that signing the former Lakers star would have been a “complete disaster” for the franchise.
“No Dubs won Laflopper free agenc big time, would have been a complete disaster a circus 🎪 and Dubs would have not been any better whatsoever. now let Green go with him and things are on the up &up.”

On July 5, a medical timeout controversy unfolded during Felix Auger-Aliassime’s fourth-round Wimbledon match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
The incident occurred in the fourth set with Auger-Aliassime leading by two sets to one and serving for the match at 5-4. Trailing 15-40 in the game, Fokina went down with an apparent ankle injury and called for a medical timeout.
After the play resumed, Auger-Aliassime lost momentum, double-faulted, lost his service game, and went on to lose the fourth-set tie break. However, he bounced back in the deciding set and sealed the victory to advance to the quarterfinals. Following the win, he shared his frustration over the medical timeout and called the rule ‘disgraceful’ in the post-match press conference.
This incident garnered Coco Gauff’s former coach, Brad Gilbert’s, attention, who criticized the medical timeout rule. Sharing a video on X, he said:
“A pet peeve of mine… A rule change has to be made ASAP. No medical timeouts allowed on your opponent’s serve. I don’t care if it’s a serious injury unless you forfeit the game. But these medical timeouts during the game, even if it’s on your serve, I still feel like you should forfeit the game. The umpires are afraid to do anything and we’ve allowed this rule to go on,” Gilbert said.
Felix Auger-Aliassime’s run at Wimbledon ended after falling to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.
