After months of speculation, the news of Serena Williams’ comeback to tennis has proven to be true, as the legendary player announced her return in a latest video. This update has stunned the sports personalities, including Coco Gauff, Lindsey Vonn, Maria Sharapova, and others who have dropped sweet reactions on social media.
Williams retired from the sport in 2022 after competing at the US Open, where she progressed to the third round before falling against Ajla Tomljanovic in three sets. After staying away from the sport for almost four years, the American is now all set to make a comeback.
The speculation of her return first sparked in October 2025, when she appeared in the ITIA testing pool, as this 6-month out-of-competition testing is important before returning to professional play. This made the fans curious and a buzz of her comeback started making rounds all over the internet, but, in December, Williams herself shut down the speculations, stating that she was not coming back. However, months later of these rumors, she confirmed her return through a video with Nike on Instagram.
The video offered a glimpse of her on a tennis court and a phone chiming continuously, followed by a text that read:
“Guess everybody heard the news.”
The post’s caption read:
“Good news travels fast.”
This post garnered the attention of several tennis players, including Coco Gauff, who penned a sweet comment that read:
