Alexander Zverev was recently seen frustrated with constant questions surrounding him being the clear favourite of the French Open at this point. The German delivered a blunt answer, stating that he is focused on present matches.
Zverev opened his Roland Garros campaign on Sunday, May 24, against Benjamin Bonzi, and after defeating him with an impressive scoreline of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, he faced Tomas Machac in the second round. After prevailing over Quentin Halys, he advanced to the fourth round, where he recently contested against Jesper de Jong, and maintaining his dominance, registered a straight-set win of 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-1.
After his qualification for the quarter-final round, he sat for a conversation with the press conference, where he was asked about being the clear favourite for the first time following the crash out of top seeds, including Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic. Frustrated with the back-to-back questions surrounding the same topic, he said:
“Why don’t, why don’t you just give the answer then? I mean, go ahead. No, I, I’ll give the same answer I gave two days ago. I will focus on the matches that are ahead of me. This is the only thing that I can control. I focused on De Jong. I played a good match. I won. I’m going to focus on Judar next and hopefully play a good match. That’s the only thing that is in my concern,” said Alexander Zverev.
Alexander Zverev weighed in on his physical condition after qualifying for the French Open quarterfinal
After producing an exceptional play against Jesper de Jong in the fourth round of Roland Garros, Alexander Zverev sat for a post-match press conference, where he made his feelings known about his match. In addition to this, he was also asked about how he was feeling physically after playing more economical matches as compared to other players’ long matches.
Responding to this, he said:
“Yeah, good match. I think after 3-0 I found a rhythm and was I think a very solid match. I feel fine. I felt like the previous match was still challenging, but I feel good. For me, as long as my tennis is coming together and I feel well on the court and confident, I’m happy,” said Alexander Zverev.
“Look, I’m I’m here. I’m feeling confident with my game. Thought I handled the situations well the first week even when I was losing a set like the last match I came back and played well. Today I was down a break in the early on came back and played well. So I feel like I’m handling situations quite well and I will do everything possible to continue doing that.”
