Coco Gauff Drops 1-Word Comment Reminding Fans How ‘GOAT-ed’ Her Nickname Is To Replace Her Real Name

Coco Gauff has sent the tennis world into a hilarious frenzy after sarcastically admitting how her first name, which happens to be a nickname, has actually taken over her identity completely to the point that no one identifies her through her real name anymore. Gauff reacted to an internet meme, describing nicknames of notable people taking center stage over their actual names.

Coco Gauff is renowned for her prowess on the court and has bagged multiple accolades at a young age, which has helped her secure a top-tier spot in the history books of tennis. Gauff has two Grand Slam titles to her name, and consistently sits at the top of the highest-paid female athltes in the world.

The American is primarily known to the world as “Coco Gauff,” but was named Cori Gauff at birth. Born into a family of athletes, Gauff’s father Corey played collegiate basketball at Georgia State, while her mother, Candi, was a heptathlete on the track and field team at Florida State University.

Recently, an internet meme about ‘GOATed’ nicknames has been making the rounds, which says:

“That one friend whose nickname is so goated that his/her real name doesn’t exist, read the meme.”

Gauff reacted to the meme with one word on TikTok, writing:

    “me.”

The name Coco has become Gauff’s real identity, as mentioned by the tennis star frequently, to the point that even tennis tournaments use the name in their offical draws and trophy ceremonies.

The reason behind naming the tennis star “Coco” has several different versions; however, the one that the Gauff family stands by is that her dad was called Coco by his friends, which prompted him to nickname his daughter Coco.

Coco Gauff’s Time At 2026 French Open comes to an early end

Coco Gauff was in action at the French Open this fortnight, with the American having the additional responsibility of being the defending champion. Unfortunately, her run came to an early end in the first week, losing to Anastasia Potapova in the third round.

Speaking to press about the loss, the former World No. 2 said:

“I think I lost the same way in Rome as I did here, which is not good I think. You never want to lose the same way back to back times. And I feel like in Madrid it was also a similar thing, losing the same way. It’s one thing to lose but I think today.. I competed. I fought my hardest. But I don’t think I played the way I wanted to in the crucial moments.

Up next, Gauff will prepare for the grass season, hoping to make a better mark at Wimbledon after the disappointment in Paris.
