In an All-American clash at the Halle Open final, Frances Tiafoe defeated Taylor Fritz to lift his first ATP 500 title, while simultaneously making history as the first American to have won the event. It has been an all-American celebration since, as elite tennis stars Coco Gauff, Ben Shelton, and others took to their social media to congratulate their compatriot on the milestone victory.
The OWL arena on Sunday saw Fritz and Tiafoe take to the center court after both had battled their way through a series of grueling matches. With an impeccable display of serve and never facing a break point, Tiafoe broke Fritz once in each set to secure 6-4, 6-4 win.
After the win, Tiafoe celebrated his achievement with his girlfriend Ayan Broomfield on the court and gave a heartfelt winning speech. Joining hands in celebrating the historic win were Gauff, Shelton, Hailey Baptiste, Reilly Opelka, and Robin Montgomery. Each took to their Instagram to post a story honoring Tiafoe’s victory.
Gauff, Shelton, Opelka, and Montgomery posted celebratory emojis and tagged Tiafoe’s official handle to flood his notifications with love.
Currently recovering from her Roland Garros injury, Baptiste also took time to congratulate her longtime friend on his epic win by putting his photo on her Instagram story, overlaying it with a red-heart emoji.

For the first time in his career, Tiafoe managed to beat three top 10 players in a single tournament, with previous wins coming against Flavio Cobolli in the Round of 32 and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals.
Fritz also had entered the final in strong form after having recently avenged his Stuttgart loss to Ben Shelton and defeating the reigning Roland Garros champion Alexander Zverev.
