Chris Evert Reacts to Iga Swiatek Matching Her French Open Record

Iga Świątek recently achieved a milestone at the French Open, as she matched the former player Chris Evert’s French Open record. This achievement caught the latter’s attention, who dropped a sweet gesture, lauding the Pole.

Swiatek commenced her 2026 French Open campaign on Monday, May 25, where she locked horns with Emerson Jones and claimed a straight-sets win. Following this, she recently met Sara Bejlek in the second round of the tournament on the Philippe-Chatrier court. The Polish player dominated this showdown as well, again claiming a straight-sets win of 6-2, 6-3 against the Czech player.

Amid her ongoing Roland Garros run, she recently matched Evert’s French Open record of most wins in the first 45 main draw matches. The WTA shared this achievement on X, calling both players the ‘legends’ of the tournament. Their tweet read:

“Two legends of Roland-Garros. @iga_swiatek equals @ChrissieEvert’s Open Era record of most wins in her first 45 main draw matches! #RolandGarros.”

This drew Evert’s attention, who shared a sweet reaction on X. Posting a bunch of clapping emojis, she wrote:

    “👏👏👏👏👏👏”

    Evert’s reaction

In her illustrious tennis career, Evert has won the French Open title seven times in 1974, 1975, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1985, and 1986. On the other hand, Swiatek has so far has won this title four times in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Iga Świątek opened up about her second-round win at the French Open

After prevailing over Sara Bejlek in straight sets at the second round of the French Open, Iga Swiatek spoke to the media during her press conference, where she was asked to share her thoughts on the match. Calling it a ‘tricky’ showdown, she weighed in on her opponent’s play and said that she was ‘happy’ with the way she managed her game on the court.

Stating that it felt good, she said:

“It was a tricky match in terms of the rhythm because Sarah plays differently than um most of the players. But um I’m happy with the way I I adjusted and um how I was making decisions because sometimes uh yeah, it was not so obvious where to when to go and attack and stay back. But uh at the end, I felt it pretty good,” said Iga Swiatek.

She was further asked about her prediction on the winner of the men’s singles tournament. Responding to this, she added:

“Jannik is so good and Carlos is injured now, but obviously both of them have been winning most of tournaments. I guess their fans are really happy and I am because I love watching them play, but for sure it’s a bit predictable. So, um, yeah, a bit you never know what’s going to happen later on. Um, so we’ll see.”

Iga Świątek is currently scheduled to face Magda Linette in the third round of the French Open.
