Caroline Wozniacki dropped her reaction to an old video from the 2009 WTA Championships, where she experienced severe, full-body cramps. She opened up about the incident that sparked the tennis rule debate.

Wozniacki was last seen in action at the 2024 US Open, on September 3, when she competed in the round of 16. Here, she faced defeat against Beatriz Haddad Maia. The Danish player has won 30 WTA Tour-level singles titles in her career, and amid this, one of her most memorable performance was at the 2009 WTA Championships in Doha.

In this tournament, she faced Vera Zvonareva in the round-robin phase, where she collapsed in the finals. She was writhing in pain as severe cramps locked her entire body; however, she still managed to get back on her feet and win the match. This incident sparked controversy over tennis rules, as muscle cramping was not classified as a medical injury. During this match, she had already used her permitted medical timeouts, so according to the rules, she could receive no further help for the cramps.

A clip of this heartbreaking incident recently went viral once again on the internet and captured Caroline Wozniacki’s reaction. Breaking her silence on the occurrence, she wrote on X:

“This was me! Came in to the match with a left hamstring strain, over compensated for it with the rest of the body, it was a long match in very humid conditions, and I ended up in a full body cramp, but somehow found a way to win the match! Crazy to watch it back!”

    Woniacki’s response

Apart from her tennis heroics, Caroline Wozniacki is currently taking time for her family, as she recently gave birth to her third child on July 26, 2025.

When Caroline Wozniacki made her feelings known on balancing motherhood and tennis

After competing at the 2024 US Open, Caroline Wozniacki spoke to the media, where she weighed in on handling motherhood and tennis together. When asked about the challenges she faced both on and off the court, she said that balancing life as an athlete and being a mother was a struggle for her; however, she admitted that it was ‘the best job in the world.’

“My kids are there every single day, and I really appreciate it. It’s the best job in the world, and I love it. I try to make sure that I am still there as 100% present mom while I’m also trying to balance being the best tennis player that I possibly can be. I think that’s where sometimes it can get a little tricky. Obviously my family is the most important thing to me, but at the same time, I love winning,” said Caroline Wozniacki.

    She added:

“So finding that balance of being I need to take time out for me and be able to recover and play and practice as much as I can and try not to feel guilty of taking a few hours away from the kids. I think that sometimes that mom guilt comes out, but I try and manage it as well as I can.”
