Ben Shelton’s girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, showed support at River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas, for the ATP pro competing in the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship (Houston Open), the only claycourt tournament for men on U.S. soil.
Rodman is currently playing for the Washington Spirit in the 2026 NWSL season. The Spirit, last year’s NWSL season finalist, has started the ongoing campaign on a disappointing note, with three draws, one loss, and no wins in the first four matches. After playing against Denver in Colorado, the Spirit will now travel to San Francisco to face Bay FC on Sunday.
The gap between the two games has given Rodman a much-needed break, which she used to travel to Houston to be with Shelton and oversee his proceedings in the ATP 250 event. The latest images of the duo from Houston, Texas, were recently shared, showcasing Rodman on the court with Shelton during his practice session.
Shelton was made to fight hard for his opening win in the event against China’s Zhang Zhizhen. The reigning Dallas Open champion won the round-of-16 match against Zhizhen in two tiebreakers to advance to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 event.
Ben Shelton Admitted to Not Feeling Comfortable Playing From the Baseline
Shelton fired 21 aces against Zhizhen in the Houston Open opener on Wednesday night, but neither player was able to register a break of serve in the match that lasted an hour and 53 mins. Despite winning in straight sets, Shelton admitted he wasn’t at ease playing from the baseline, given it was his first competitive match on clay in almost a year.
“It was my first match in almost a year on clay. I didn’t feel that comfortable playing from the baseline yet; it’s just going to take time and a few matches. I knew I had to be effective with my serve tonight and hit a few aces, and I’m happy that I did,” Shelton said.
Shelton will now take on Thiago Agustin Tirante in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
