Chris Evert, who is undergoing treatment for cancer for a third time, recently shared a touching message for former tennis player and fellow cancer survivor Bjorn Borg on social media while both are absent from Wimbledon.
Evert first got diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021. She was declared cancer-free in 2022 before the disease returned in her pelvic region in 2023. After further treatment, she was again declared cancer-free by mid-2024. However, following routine checkups in late June 2026, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer for a third time.
The former world No. 1 announced that she would miss Wimbledon and step away from her professional commitments to focus on her health. Amid her recovery, she shared a message for Borg, saying that he always reminds her of Wimbledon. She also expressed excitement for his new book, Heartbeats: A Memoir, writing:
“Every time I think of Wimbledon, I think of this guy. I know he’s battling cancer also, and I can’t wait to read his new book. I miss him.❤️”
Borg was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023 and underwent surgery to remove his prostate in February 2024. He continues to undergo regular checkups every six months after doctors warned that he might still carry sleeping cancer cells in his body.
Chris Evert Opened Up About Her Third Cancer Diagnosis
On June 25, 2026, Chris Evert revealed in an Instagram post that her ovarian cancer had returned. She said that CT and PET scans confirmed the recurrence after she had already undergone surgery. Expressing gratitude for her team, family, and friends for their support, she wrote:
“I have always believed in being open and honest about my health journey. This past weekend, after undergoing CT and PET scans, I learned that my ovarian cancer has returned. I have already undergone surgery as the first step in my treatment and recovery, and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks. Because of this, I will not be attending Wimbledon this year, and I will step back from my professional commitments over the next few months to focus on my health,” Chris Evert wrote.
She added:
“Ovarian cancer is relentless, but I will stay optimistic and determined in continuing to fight this battle. I am deeply grateful to my medical team, my family, friends, and everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement. I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”
Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova recently released Chris & Martina: The Final Set on Netflix, which chronicles their decades-long rivalry and their respective battles with cancer.
