A heartwarming side of Ben Shelton came to the fore on Tuesday when he reposted a
“Go Fund” link from ex-Florida Gator All-American Alfredo Perez, urging for financial assistance to help his father in his fight against pancreatic cancer.
Perez, who, like Shelton, has played college tennis at the University of Florida, took to Instagram and shared photos of his father with his family. In the caption, he shared a link of GoFundMe page set up by his father’s colleague, Robert Gomez.
“Asking for support during one of the hardest times our family has faced. My dad is fighting pancreatic cancer, and any donation, share, or prayer truly means the world to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🤍” Perez captioned the post.
Shelton used his Instagram platform to urge followers to help Perez in any way they can. He shared the donation link as well. When Shelton posted this, the fundraiser had already raised $3,865.
“Praying for you guys Freddy. Please help if you can,” Shelton wrote.

Gomez started the GoFundMe page, where he asked $40K in donations. Gomez describes Perez as a valued member of the tennis center. He added that the fundraiser will help Perez (via GoFundMe Page):
- Medical treatments and hospital expenses
- Medications and ongoing care
- Daily living expenses during his treatment
- Additional support needed throughout his recovery
The goal was to raise “$10,000 to help ease the financial burden,” and the response has been overwhelming. So far, the donations have reached $34,761.
