World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz added yet another trophy to his 2026 trophy cabinet after thumping Frenchman Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-1 in the Qatar Open final on Saturday night. The 22-year-old can do no wrong at the moment and has started the season as the ‘man to beat’, with the rest chasing his formidable form on court.
The Spaniard’s smooth, ruthless playing style was on display in Doha against Fils, as he dispatched the 21-year-old in 50 minutes. With the ATP 500 title win, Alcaraz further distances himself from the chasing pack, showing a great hunger to win and maintain his supremacy. After the match, Fils gave a hilarious speech that left the Spaniard in stitches.
Fils had no answer to Alcaraz’s game in the final on Saturday. The Frenchman wasn’t even allowed to settle in the contest as the Spaniard finished the match even before Fils could realize what had happened. Taking a hilarious spin on his reflection of the game and congratulating Alcaraz on the title win, Fils jokingly called the Spaniard a b****** in Spanish
“C****n… you played very good. You made a hell of a job man. It’s a joke. Congrats to you and your team. I wish you many more. Keep going like this,” Fils said.
Carlos Alcaraz is ‘Hungry for more’ This Year
After thrashing Fils to win the ATP 500 title in Doha, Alcaraz reflected on his mentality for the season, as he is now 2-for-2 across all competitions in 2026. “I came this year hungry for more,” Alcaraz said, who had lost the Qatar Open QF last year.
“It’s been a really strong start to the year. It wasn’t easy; I had to be strong mentally with my team. I’m just playing great tennis, and I’m really happy about this week. This trophy means a lot to me,” he further added.
The World No. 1 will skip the Dubai Open to focus entirely on Indian Wells, the maiden Masters 1000 event in California, starting March 2.
