Hard-hitting American Sebastian Korda dispatched Flavio Cobolli in the Delray Beach Open semifinal on Saturday night to make sure the summit clash was going to be an all-American affair in Florida. Korda defeated the tournament number. 3 seed 7-6, 6-1 to advance to Sunday’s final.
After reaching his first ATP final in more than a year, Korda addressed some media questions, during which, apart from offering his honest reflections on the semifinal clash against Cobolli, the 25-year-old American expressed excitement about the prospect of an all-American final in the ATP 250 event on home soil.
“I think it was a great match. I think I served pretty well. I didn’t have too many pressure situations on my serve, and that opens up the returns. I think I played a great tie-breaker, and then after that, I just started feeling the ball a little bit better, returning a little better, and put some pressure on him,” Korda said.
“That’s where you want to be, especially here in the States. You want these American finals, and it’s definitely going to be an American final, so it’s going to be exciting for sure,” he further added on the all-American summit clash.
Sebastian Korda to Face Tommy Paul in the Delray Beach Open Final
Korda is set to face fellow American and tournament’s no. 5 seed Tommy Paul, who defeated yet another American, Learner Tien, in the other semifinal on Saturday night. Paul had to work hard for the come-from-behind victory but ultimately prevailed against Tien to reach Sunday’s summit clash.
Korda and Paul have faced each other six times in the past, with the former leading the head-to-head overall win tally 4-2. Their most recent meetings came in 2024 when the duo faced each other twice on the grass surface. While Korda took the win in the Libema Open QF, Paul got the better of his American foe in the Queen’s Club SF.
Despite Korda’s advantage in the head-to-head statistics, it will surely be an exciting Delray Beach Open final on Sunday night in Florida, with both players aiming to win their maiden silverware of the year.
