The Brendan Sorsby case has put a significant spotlight on the state of college football and the rules around betting among players. With Texas Tech now parting ways with Sorsby after much criticism, it appears there was a lot we didn’t know about the case.
And that’s because Sorsby’s agent has made some wild claims about Sorsby’s former team knowing about his betting addiction but choosing to stay quiet about it all.
“The people I feel worse for besides Brendan is Texas Tech,” Sorsby’s agent, Ron Slavin, said.
“I think where they messed up was they talked too much. If anybody should be questioned or be catching heat it should be Cincinnati because they knew for two years and never said anything…”
The issues became untenable for Texas Tech, who, despite receiving a temporary injunction from a Texas judge that allowed Sorsby to play for them, came under severe backlash from players, experts, coaches and the NCAA, forcing them to put out a statement that confirmed Sorsby would not play for them.
What Did Texas Tech Say About the Whole Situation?
After initially standing their ground and supporting the recruitment of Sorsby, the Red Raiders backed off, but not before billionaire booster Cody Campbell gave the world Tech’s side of the story.
“So, we were left in a position where, for the best interest of more people and an institution that’s very important to all of us, we had to do what we had to do,” Campbell said following the departure of Sorsby.
With the quarterback heading into the NFL supplemental draft, a whole new chapter awaits the former Cincinnati man.
