RJ Day has officially committed to Northwestern University, leaving many confused about why he didn’t end up at Ohio State University, where his dad Ryan Day is the head coach.
After all, it felt like a natural progression for Ryan Day, who has helped coach his son into a solid quarterback, to get him set up for the big time at a University that probably can get the best out of him.
But his commitment to another Big 10 program left more questions than answers, some of which the young QB has already answered.
An interview of RJ Day with Fan Stream Sports in Ohio might have the answers fans are looking for, and it really puts things into context.
“I want to find a place that fits me,” RJ Day had said.
“It’s not about the size of the school, like we say all the time I could come here (Ohio State) if I wanted to but would it be a great fit? I don’t believe so. I don’t think that Ohio State would be a good fit for me, so it’s not about the size of the school for me and I’ve said this to pretty much anybody who’s recruited me it’s about the fit.”
Why is Ohio State Not a Great Fit for RJ Day?
The Northwestern commit gave some more reasoning behind why Ohio State isn’t the school for him, suggesting the dynamics may be something he doesn’t want to encounter.
“Coming into it I just feel like a lot of people would have their own reservations about why I’m there. I want to do something on my own, a lot of my life has been about being someone’s son. I feel personally that I want to go do something for myself and try to make a name for myself instead of just being someone’s son.”
