Lane Kiffin recently made a bold statement about some of the challenges he faced at Ole Miss when it came to recruiting.
During his latest interview with Vanity Fair, Lane Kiffin shared that during his time with the Rebels, many recruits would go to him and tell him they want to play at Ole Miss but aren’t allowed to because their grandparents don’t approve, hinting at a racial problem that he faced in Oxford.
The statement didn’t sit well with many fans and analysts, leading to Kiffin even issuing an apology for his comment and saying that Ole Miss has been great for him and his family.
Talking about Kiffin’s comment, Rece Davis shared his thoughts and said that the LSU head coach might’ve done it to get a recruiting advantage over Ole Miss.
“The thing that struck me about this was that it was completely unnecessary from Lane Kiffin because you had, what, five years at Ole Miss to deal with some of these things and to confront them and to make a difference in a positive way. And instead, what you choose to do is bring it up in an interview, and it wouldn’t take much of a cynic to say that you’re doing it for some type of recruiting advantage or some type of final dig on the way out the door. It just didn’t ring as being something other than some type of recruiting gig.”
Paul Finebaum Left Unimpressed Over Lane Kiffin’s Comment on Ole Miss
Paul Finebaum spoke about the statement and said that he doesn’t believe Kiffin’s comment was a slip of the tongue and shared that he talked to the writer at Vanity Fair, who told him the LSU head coach wasn’t even asked about the racism aspect of recruiting at Ole Miss.
“Kiffin just started rifting.” Finebaum claimed.
Finebaum boldly predicted that the comment was an attempt by Kiffin to wipe Ole Miss off of the face of the earth, as he is still very bitter with the program because they didn’t let him coach the Rebels in the playoffs.
Kiffin signed a 6-year, $90M deal with LSU just before Ole Miss was heading to the playoffs, making it one of the most controversial stories of the 2025 college football season.
