Pat Fitzgerald and Michigan State just secured one of their most significant commitments yet with four-star offensive lineman Caleb Johnson.
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound prospect from Noblesville High School committed to Michigan State over a strong list of contenders that included Indiana, Iowa and Missouri. Johnson becomes the 14th commitment in the Spartans’ 2027 recruiting class and ranks among the highest-rated prospects in the group.
For Johnson, the decision ultimately came down to relationships and the atmosphere he experienced during his visits.
“The people there, it was an easy choice, I just fit so well with the 2027 class there. With me and the players already there, it felt like home,” Johnson said after announcing his commitment.
Michigan State was the first Power Four program to offer Johnson, and that early belief left a lasting impression on him.
“Obviously, Coach Fitz has a great background of winning, and I think he can do the same thing with Michigan State. I feel I can be a key cornerstone of that,” Johnson said. “Their belief in me from the beginning. They were my first P4 offer. They’ve been there recruiting me from the beginning.”
Pat Fitzgerald Beats Big Ten Rivals for 4-Star Prospect
Caleb Johnson is ranked among the nation’s top interior offensive linemen and sits just outside the top 200 overall prospects nationally. Landing a player of his caliber is a sign that the Spartans are making good progress under Pat Fitzgerald.
Johnson joins fellow offensive line commits Jack Carlson and Grant Adloff, giving Michigan State one of the stronger offensive line groups in the 2027 cycle.
“A lot of talent is going to Michigan State right now. I talked to a lot of the offensive linemen going there, Jack and Grant. I’ve built a great connection with them and Eli Stumpf. Just me knowing I’m going in with a bunch of dawgs ready to work excites me,” Johnson said.
With three of the class’s top commitments now coming along the offensive line, Michigan State is focusing on becoming a strong contender in the upcoming season.
For Fitzgerald, the addition of Johnson is about more than just adding another talented prospect. It’s proof that the Spartans can go head-to-head with major Big Ten programs and emerge victorious in recruiting battles for top talent.
That’s the type of momentum Michigan State hopes will continue throughout the 2027 cycle.
