As the New York Knicks got ready to host their first home NBA Finals game since the 1990s, the spotlight remained on President Donald Trump, who made an appearance to support his local team at Madison Square Garden.
However, Knicks fans in attendance did not take kindly to the president coming out to support the team, as evidenced by Trump getting booed by fans as the broadcast panned to him during the National Anthem.
Despite the Knicks taking a five-point lead heading into halftime, the team eventually ended up losing to Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs by a four-point margin.
After the game, Dez Bryant, a three-time Pro-Bowler with the Cowboys, blamed the Knicks’ loss on the fans, implying it was a result of the fans booing President Trump. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Bryant claimed:
“That’s what you Knicks fans get for hating on President Trump!”
Bryant, a Texas native, has previously shown his love for San Antonio, sharing a video of himself with a Spurs jersey.
Donald Trump Speaks On Stephen A. Smith’s Potential Presidential Run
While a lot of Knicks fans were opposed to Trump’s appearance at the MSG, Stephen A. Smith also joined the fray by making his feelings known on the president’s desire to attend the game at Madison Square Garden.
Smith said Knicks fans should blame the president if the team loses in his presence.
“I’m blaming the president for the United States of America If the New York Knicks lose this tonight. It is selfish…. This is not the place for the president to be coming. He knows it. He just doesn’t care.”
When asked about the same after the game, Trump took a jab at the ESPN host’s potential presidential run in 2028, saying:
“You need a high IQ to run for president. I’m not sure that Stephen has that. I don’t think he does actually.”
