Texas Longhorns’ coach Bob Bowman recently shared his take on Summer McIntosh’s swimming form, sharing the details of her edge as a swimming star. The Canadian swimmer is currently competing at the 2026 TYR Pro Series in Westmont, which commenced on March 4 and will finish on March 7.
McIntosh’s latest outing came on Day 2 of the TYR Pro Series in Westmont, where she competed in the women’s 200m butterfly. She delivered a standout swim in this race, winning a gold medal after recording 2:04.72. Trailing behind her was Lindsay Looney, who won the silver medal with a time of 2:09.03.
Amid her strong performances at the TYR Pro Series in Westmont, her coach, Bowman, made his feelings known about her personality. Highlighting her hardworking nature while training, she said:
“She is the same all the time. She’s never really emotional. She is just like all business all the time. If you ask her to do something, she’ll do it exactly like you ask her to do it and then ask for more. I was like, how is that? She’s like, it’s pretty hard. Like, OK, well, can you do more? She’s like, “Yeah, I could probably do it,” She’s very in tune to kind of where she wants to go and what she wants to do, but she fits in great with the group, right? Like, she’s not like, she doesn’t require any attention at all,” said Bowman.
He added:
“Like if I didn’t, if I went to a practice and never spoke to her, she wouldn’t; it wouldn’t faze her at all. She would just do her practise. If you give her attention, yeah, great to have it, and thanks, and, you know, thank you and all that kind of stuff. But she’s just very focused and amazing trainer. She’s up there with you.”
Summer McIntosh opened her Pro Series run in Westmont on March 4, where she competed in the women’s 800 m freestyle race. One of her fierce contenders during this swim was Katie Ledecky, who eventually won the race, clocking 8:08.57. The Canadian claimed the silver medal after registering 8:10.45.
When Summer McIntosh opened up about training under Bob Bowman
In November 2025, Summer McIntosh appeared on the Gold Medal Mel podcast, where she discussed several aspects surrounding the sport. Among this, one of the topics she weighed in on was her training session with her coach, Bob Bowman. Revealing how she has been training under him, she said:
“I see my events as polar opposites. The 200 IM is a sprint for me, and the 800 is distance. I’ve only been training with Bob for two months now, and I do some distance training here and there, and we have our speed days as well, but he somehow gets everything in for every event possible in a week, which I think is amazing, as it’s very hard to balance all the different strokes and distances as well, but somehow he gets it done super efficiently,” said Summer McIntosh.
One of the first events of 2026 for Summer McIntosh was the TYR Pro Series Austin. Here, she won two gold medals in the 400 m individual medley and 200 m individual medley.
