In a major turn of events, Jordan Chiles was given an appeal to reclaim her Olympic gold medal, which was revoked during the 2024 Paris Games. On Thursday, Switzerland’s highest court, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, advised the Court of Arbitration (CAS) to review Chile’s appeal.
Two years back at the Paris Olympics, Chiles competed in the floor event and clinched fifth place with 13.666 points, including 5.800 for difficulty and 7.866 for execution. Her coach, Cecile Landi, appealed her difficulty score, after which she was awarded an additional tenth of a point. This settled her in third place in the competition, after her score was increased to 13.766 points.
The Romanian squad made an appeal to CAS, highlighting that the USA team coach submitted the inquiry beyond the one-minute deadline by four seconds. Days later, the International Olympic Committee stripped her of the medal and awarded it to Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu.
More than two years later, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court sent her case back to the CAS. USA Gymnastics showed its support to Chiles.
“We are pleased the Swiss Federal Supreme Court recognized the flaws in the initial process and that Jordan’s case can now be heard inclusive of all relevant evidence,” USA Gymnastics said in the written statement. “We look forward to a fair arbitration that includes the clear evidence proving the inquiry into Jordan’s score was filed well within 1 minute as required by FIG rules.”
Citing new audiovisual evidence, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court advised that the gymnast’s appeal should be reexamined.
Jordan Chiles Opens Up On Receiving Massive Support From UCLA Fans
Jordan Chiles recently took pride in being a part of UCLA gymnastics. In an interview with WILX News 10, she also expressed her joy in being able to fill other schools’ stadiums with their presence.
“I mean, it’s really cool and amazing. I feel like, you know, as best as we can as being the Bruins, we love to bring the support and love from everywhere. And so, knowing that we can help, you know, other schools sell out stadiums, it just means a lot. And it means that, you know, people are here to witness both ends, the school that they love, but also this rivalry as well. So, I think this is definitely one of the best Big 10 meets I’ve ever been a part of, and so it’s like, why not, you know, bring the energy and everything.” (0:08 onwards)
Chiles bagged a perfect ten on floor and vault against UCLA’s faceoff against Washington on January 30, 2026.
