Sha’Carri Richardson, her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, and other track and field stars turned heads with their traditional Hanfu attire before the Xiamen Diamond League. The tournament will take place on May 23, 2026, at the Xiamen Egret Stadium, Xiamen, China.
Richardson was last seen in action at the Shanghai Diamond League, where she competed in the women’s 200m race. This race was her highly anticipated 200m season opener, where she finished fourth after recording a time of 22.42 seconds. The first position was claimed by her on-track arch-rival Shericka Jackson, who clocked 22.07 seconds.
She is now gearing up to compete at the Xiamen Diamond League, where she will compete in her second outdoor 200m of the season. She will compete against her top international competitors, including Shericka Jackson and Shaunae Miller-Uibo. Just ahead of this tournament, she and other track stars, including Coleman, Tonea Marshall, Kenny Bednarek, Amy Hunt, and more, attended the cultural theme park Time Meets Island in Xiamen.
FloTrack posted a bunch of pictures of the event, where all of them were seen wearing traditional Hanfu attire. The post’s caption read:
“Fun in Xiamen before the racing starts. The athletes dressed in traditional Hanfu attire and took in performances from local drummers and dancers as the countdown to #XiamenDL continues.”
Sha’Carri Richardson spoke about rivalry on the track after the Shanghai Diamond League
After finishing fourth at the Shanghai Diamond League, Sha’Carri Richardson spoke to the media, where she weighed in on her rivalries with the Jamaicans. Stating that having rivals on the track is compulsory, she said that it raises competition.
“It’s just like you said, in sports, you have to have rivalry. You have to have that person, or you have to have that individual or that country that you know, like, hey, they’re gonna bring their A-game every time they see you, so I got to bring my A-game every time I see them,” said Sha’Carri Richardson.
She added:
“So I feel like I enjoy that rivalry outside of, like you said, even my group itself. But I enjoy that rivalry because every single time we line up against each other, it’s just like, “Okay, I know you came here to play. I came here to play, so who’s gonna walk away with the win today?” And it’s every single time.”
Sha’Carri Richardson opened her 2026 season at the Stawell Gift, Australia, on April 6, 2026.
