Nebraska’s Antrell Taylor’s Strap Throw at Oklahoma’s Landon Robideau After NCAA Loss Ignites Massive Sportsmanship Firestorm Among Fans

Nebraska’s Antrell Taylor did not react well to his loss to Oklahoma’s Landon Robideau in the 157-pound finals at the NCAA Wrestling Championships, throwing his strap at his opponent after being defeated.

Taylor and Robideau locked horns on Day 3. The first period was scoreless, but Robideau appeared to have secured a three-point nearfall in the second. However, after a challenge from Nebraska, the verdict was changed to a two-point call. After both athletes registered escapes and incurred penalties, Robideau claimed the title with a score of 4-2, dashing Taylor’s hopes of becoming the NCAA champion.

After the loss, Taylor threw his strap at Robideau. A clip of this moment went viral online and drew major backlash from fans, who questioned the Nebraska wrestler’s sportsmanship.

One of the users urged officials to take a team point away from Nebraska after Taylor’s behavior.

Another fan highlighted Taylor’s “true personality,” commenting:

Antrell Taylor shows his true personality. Wow no respect. Throwing straps in Landon’s face. That should be a team point.”

Stunned by the action, one of the followers wrote:

“Did Antrell Taylor chuck his anklets at Robideau?”

Emphasizing the apparent lack of sportsmanship, another user chimed in:

“#NCAAWrestling Antrell Taylor lost and showed poor sportsmanship when throwing the reds directly at Robideau.”

Landon Robideau made his feelings known about his match against Antrell Taylor at the NCAA Championships

After defeating Antrell Taylor in the 157-pound final on March 21, Landon Robideau called his opponent disrespectful and also said that he was ready to deliver and avenge an earlier loss to Taylor during the regular season.

“I wanted this match bad. At the end, I’m usually not a guy who gets in people’s faces, but he was kind of disrespectful, I thought, to my coaches and was kind of up in their face. I wanted to show him this is for the national championship. You gotta get hard when it matters most, and I was ready,” said Landon Robideau.

He further opened up about the support he received during the bout, highlighting his bond with his Oklahoma teammates.

“After that, I saw my teammates. I saw Dee (Lockett), I saw Zack Ryder, I saw all those guys supporting me. I saw my mom, I saw my brothers there. I just thought back to all the hard work I put in to get to this point, and having them there mat-side supporting me means a lot.”

Landon Robideau advanced to the final after besting top seed PJ Duke.
