Harper Murray Revealed Why Nobody Left the Nebraska Volleyball Team After John Cook Retired
After serving the Nebraska volleyball team for 25 years, John Cook retired in January 2025. Following his retirement, Dani Busboom Kelly joined the team as the new head coach, but after this coaching change, no player left the team. In a recent conversation with Hail Varsity, Harper Murray was asked why nobody left the team after the change.
Nebraska’s outside hitter said it was because of the culture that Cook had built in the team. She said that the team trusted his decision to replace himself with Busboom-Kelly.
“I feel like just that attests to the culture and the tradition that John built here over the past 24-25 years. I feel like we all trust him to replace him with someone like Dai. And we all trusted that he would put someone in his position to make us successful. And we all knew that Dani would be able to do that. And I also think Dani has an amazing reputation in the volleyball world. She’s done so much at Louisville, and we all saw that happen,” said Harper Murray.
She added:
“Like we’ve played Louisville in the past. We’ve seen what she’s been able to do with their program, so I think it was easy for us to trust that she’d be able to bring us success too.”
After competing with Ottawa in the opening round of the beach volleyball season, Harper Murray and the Nebraska volleyball team will face Wayne State on February 27.
