Gout Gout’s coach, Di Sheppard, recently revealed how the athlete’s reported Adidas deal doesn’t worry her, but another personal life factor does. The Australian is currently gearing up for his upcoming anticipated bout against Noah Lyles.

Gout’s one of the latest performances was at the 2026 Australian Athletics Championships, where he produced a dominant performance, etching his name in history books. He competed in the 200m dash, where he recorded an exceptional 19.67s, breaking the world under-20 record, his personal best, and the Australian national record.

Apart from his track heroics, the 18-year-old is also the talk of the town because of his reported deal with Adidas of more than $4 million, which will last until the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Gout and his coach recently appeared at ‘The 60 Minutes Interview,’ where his coach was asked if she was worried that the Adidas money was going to change the dynamic and the balance.

Responding to this, Sheppard revealed that only any of the athlete’s girlfriends that she doesn’t like can cause problems between their dynamic.

“I think the only time we’ll have trouble is if it’s a girl that I don’t like. I’d go to mum and go, “Yea, she’s gotta go,”” said Sheppard.

Gout Gout opened up about his dynamics with his coach, Di Sheppard

In the aforementioned interview, Gout Gout weighed in on his relationship with his coach, Di Sheppard, calling it a ‘crazy’ dynamic. Stating that it works out perfectly, he said:

“It’s a pretty crazy dynamic when you think about it. The old white lady and a young Black kid, you know? It’s a crazy dynamic. But turns out it works perfectly, and wouldn’t have it any other way. Yeah. It’s literally straight out of a movie. indeed. It does work. And I guess our personalities kinda– filter off each other. Like we’re – all on the same level, and we’re all learning. So it’s a great relationship,” said Gout Gout.

In the same conversation, Sheppard further revealed that she had to deal with a lot of growth issues with Gout. She said:

“I had to deal with a lot of growth issues with Gout. When I met Gout he walked right up on his toes. It took me six months to get the heel down, and it wasn’t all the way down. He still walked – That’s why he looks like he kind of [imitates with arms].”

Gout Gout has been coaching under Di Sheppard since he was 12-13 years old and they met at Ipswich Grammar School.
