Fans recently slammed AJ Ferrari for accusing Yonger Bastida of using human growth hormone (HGH) right after the latter defeated him and ended his NCAA Championships quest. Ferrari suffered a loss against the Iowa State wrestler in the 285 lbs category semifinal round at the Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
Bastida earned a major decision, 15-7, over the Nebraska wrestler in the 285 lbs category. They both previously competed against each other in the 197 lbs category in 2021, which Ferrari dominated. Reflecting on the past faceoff and recent Bastida’s dominance, Ferrari highlighted an unnatural muscle growth in his opponent, suggesting he used performance-enhancing drugs, and asked for a test.
“We wrestled years ago at 197, you saw how that went,” Ferrari said. “He didn’t vote with me at all. But guess what? You see it looks like, listen I’m not gonna say things and make accusations because I know facts and the facts are you saw him when he was 19-20 years like me, no acne look at him. Now tons acnes and back acnes. So whoever is running the testing protocol for test HGH probably should go testing people not just in the season but outside this season because he gained 30 pounds of muscles”
His claims did not land well with wrestling fans, one of whom called him a loser, writing:
“Typical loser excuse from a typical loser.”
Another fan noted the series of excuses made by Ferrari and referred to him as clown.
The Nebraska team followed Penn State and Oklahoma State in the ranking after the 2026 NCAA Championships conclusion.

The Nebraska program finished in third place with 116.5 points, behind Penn State and Ohio State, who recorded 184.0 and 148.5, respectively. In 2021, Ferrari represented Oklahoma State before moving to Cal State Bakersfield and Nebraska. At the 2021 Championships, he dominated the 197 lb category, winning his first NCAA title.
