Carter Starocci recently shared his surprise and excitement on social media after learning that Pennsylvania will have around 50 wrestlers competing at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships. He highlighted the difference from last year, when he was the sole champion from Pennsylvania, to the notable number of top-notch wrestlers competing in the tournament.
The 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships, which will be held from March 19 to 21 in Cleveland, Ohio, will feature wrestlers from programs across the country, but Pennsylvania’s representation stands out. Penn State leads all states with 50 qualified wrestlers, producing the highest number of NCAA participants, leading other teams, including Ohio and New Jersey, which have 28 wrestlers competing.
The number caught the attention of the former NCAA wrestler, Starocci, who was stunned by Penn State’s 50 wrestlers competing in the championships. Emphasizing how the team has come a long way, he compared the current situation with last season, stating that he was the only champion from Pennsylvania to win in Pennsylvania. He belongs to Erie, Pennsylvania.
He expressed his astonishment over the development and penned an encouraging message for the wrestlers on X, writing:
“Crazy I was the only guy from PA to win in PA last year. Shows that none of that matters. Dreams are in your face, who wants it the most? Go make it happen. Good luck to all the competitors next weekend. Go change your life boys!” wrote Carter Starocci.
Starocci won the 184 lbs title at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships after defeating the defending champion, Northern Iowa’s Parker Keckeisen, 4-3. With the victory, he secured his historic fifth NCAA title.
