The Nebraska Cornhusker wrestler, Brock Hardy, recently spoke about his wrestling endeavor and an old shoving incident that involved his opponent, Braeden Davis. Hardy mentioned how the incident had been blown out of proportion, and Davis should be cut some slack, given the pressure he had on him.
During a dual meet last season, Hardy and Davis faced each other at the Bryce Jordan Center, where Hardy beat Davis via pinfall. Hardy pinned Davis and tapped on his belly before releasing, which ticked Davis, who immediately shoved the Nebraskan before the referee got involved.
Reflecting on the old incident, Hardy elaborated on how Davis has been garnering unnecessary heat, calling it unfortunate and attributing his shove to a reflection of his sheer competitive spirit.
“I think Breaden Davis is getting too much hate for a flash moment, I also think like, the dude’s like a really really competitive spirited like, at the end of the day, after a match you can’t be mad at a guy for being like, upset, when you try to like when you try to be nice, he doesn’t wanna be nice,” he said.
He also highlighted that emotionally charged arenas can impact the psyche and influence what happens on the mat. He also backed Davis against some of the fans who had blasted the Nittany Lion for his conduct.
Brock Hardy Cleared the Air on the Belly Pat
During the aforementioned seasonal match, when Brock Hardy squared off against Breaden Davis, Hardy pinned Davis and patted him on the belly, which ticked off Davis, who responded with a shove.
However, during a post-fight conference, Hardy apologized for the pat and made it clear how it wasn’t supposed to undermine his opponent.
“I apologize to Breaden because I patted him on the belly, but it wasn’t meant to be, like, belittling whatsoever, but also I can see why it was taken that way,” he said.
He also hinted at clearing the air privately afterwards and took it upon himself by saying it was wrong on his part. The two met in the quarterfinals last week during the NCAA D1 tournament, where Hardy beat Davis by a 9-4 decision.
