The Seattle Seahawks have found their new running backs coach and senior offensive assistant, hiring Northern Illinois coach Thomas Hammock, who was with the program for seven years.
He had also previously interviewed for the Seahawks offensive coordinator job before Brian Fleury was hired for that role. Hammock grabbed attention from multiple NFL teams and is now expected to become the NFL’s highest-paid running backs coach.
After Pete Thamel shared the news on X, fans had assuming reactions to the hiring.

Thomas Hammock Share Close Relationship With Seattle HC Mike Macdonald
According to Pete Thamel, Thomas Hammock and Mike Macdonald worked together for five years in Baltimore and that bond proved to be the difference maker in his selection as running backs coach.
In his seven years with Northern Illinois, Hammock led the program to 35-47 record and three bowl games. A couple of years ago, his team stunned the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was previously the Baltimore Ravens running backs coach as well. There, he and Macdonald worked side by side.
According to ESPN, Hammock’s departure was made known to Northern Illinois players at 8 am Wednesday morning. It remains to be seen how Hammock can use his years of experience and help Seattle defend the Super Bowl next year.
