Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz seems to think that the Big Ten is cheating the SEC, and that the latter’s national title wins don’t mean as much as they seem to at face value. Speaking with the press on Tuesday, the Mizzou coach stated that the Big Ten’s recent success is partially due to their easier schedules.
According to Drinkwitz, the Big Ten schools don’t play any non-conference games that are worth it:

Fans were ready to react, with most of them complaining about the excuses the SEC coaches keep putting forward.
“Man, championship cope from the bottom of the SEC is crazy,”

One fan pointed out that the example doesn’t apply to every Big Ten school.
Which teams did Indiana play in their non-conference encounters in 2025?
The current national champions did have an easy non-conference schedule this past season, opening their season with games against Old Dominion, Kennesaw State and Indiana State. However, they did have three games against ranked opponents ahead of the College Football Playoffs, playing Illinois, Oregon and Ohio State.
But this isn’t a purely Big Ten issue, as some SEC programs do avoid tough non-conference schedules. Take Georgia, for example, which played Marshall, Austin Peay and Charlotte.
