Fred Warner has been out of the field since October 12th, when he broke and dislocated his right ankle in a game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Most analysts thought that was the end of the linebackers’ season, and that what came was a lengthy recovery with eyes set on 2026.
However, the latest reports are that the San Francisco 49ers are eying a potential return for the NFC championship game in a couple of weeks. The team has activated Warner’s practice window as they prepare for the Divisional round game on Saturday. The player was seen running on a side field last week during the 49ers’ practice.
On Tuesday, coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with the press about the team’s plan surrounding Fred Warner:
“We’re not doing much, so he’ll walk through out there with us today and things like that, but hoping he can be ready for next week,” Shanahan said Tuesday.
However, it’s very unlikely, not to say impossible, that he will be available for Saturday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. All eyes are set for a potential return in the NFC championship game, that is, if they win on the weekend.
San Francisco 49ers Players Want Fred Warner Back on The Field
Who wouldn’t want to have a player like Fred Warner on the field? He’s a four-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection, and one of the most consistent players in the league. There’s no doubt in the minds of 49ers players that they want Warner back on the field for the NFC title game. Even if he hasn’t played in three months.
Here’s what defensive tackle Kalia Davis told the press this week:
“For someone who really set the standard here, I would do anything to play with him again this year,” defensive tackle Kalia Davis said. “We want him back out there.”
And that’s not just his opinion; defensive tackle C.J. West had a similar comment:
“You could feel the energy,” defensive tackle C.J. West said. “You can just feel when he’s around. It was awesome. I’m excited for him.”
The San Francisco 49ers will play the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday at 8:00 pm ET. The game is an on-the-road affair for them, being played at Lumen Field in Seattle. This will be a rematch of their last game of the regular season, where the Seahawks won 13-3.
