Why Is Stefon Diggs in Trouble? Breaking Down the Patriots WR’s Controversy

2025 was full of ups and downs for Stefon Diggs. The New England Patriots’ wide receiver made major strides on the football field, which included helping the Patriots reach the Super Bowl to face the Seattle Seahawks.

Off the field, Diggs stacked up several controversies, some of which also include legal matters. One of the biggest controversies happened in December and was brought to light early in January 2026.

Diggs added a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of assault to his list of problems. He was accused by a private chef who claimed that the argument started over the money he owed her.

On December 2, when the encounter between them happened, the private chef alleged that Diggs “smacked her across the face” and then “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.”

The arraignment in this matter was originally slated for January 23. However, since Diggs was an integral part of the Patriots team and they were on track to make it to the Super Bowl, some changes were made in the schedule.

The arraignment was rescheduled for February 13, days after the Super Bowl. Diggs and the Patriots suffered a humiliating 13-29 loss against the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

Today is the day when Diggs’ arraignment will take place. While the allegations against him are very serious, his attorney has stated that the Patriots star “categorically denies these allegations.”

This will be the first court appearance in this case, and depending on how things unfold today, the future course of action for Diggs will be decided. Shockingly, this isn’t the only problem that Diggs is facing right now.

Stefon Diggs Was Sued Earlier This Month

In the first week of February, TMZ reported that a 32-year-old man filed a lawsuit against Diggs. This particular matter was regarding an incident that happened in 2024, involving Stefon Diggs’ Ferrari.

The man claimed that he worked for Diggs two years ago and was asked to arrange shipping his Ferrari from Miami to New York and then to Houston. The car was stolen in Houston.

The man claimed in his lawsuit that Diggs began spreading the word that he was involved in the theft of his car, even though he was never arrested or charged. To make matters worse, the man alleged that he was being confronted by people associated with Diggs.

“He says people close to Stefon approached him at restaurants in Houston and Miami and even came to his home demanding he return gifts given to him by Stefon,” TMZ reported.

The man who filed the lawsuit also claimed that his reputation has taken a massive hit, and it is now affecting his business too.
