“We’re Collecting Washed Chiefs Tackles”: Fans React As Falcons Acquire Former Kansas City OL Wanya Morris

The Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs are both looking to bounce back after a season that did not go either team’s way. Both also believed the path forward was through both organizations. The Falcons acquired offensive lineman Wanya Morris and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the Chiefs in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick.

The trade was announced on X on Tuesday in a post from the Falcons and first reported by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. The move was the second time the Falcons added an offensive lineman. The first was when the team signed Jawaan Taylor.

“We have completed a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs,” the Falcons posted.

Fans reacted to the announcement in droves and quickly separated into two camps. In one camp, fans condemned the move.

“We’re collecting washed chiefs tackles,” one posted.

“Dude is ultra bad,” another claimed.

“Bolstering the line lol,” one responded sarcastically.

In the second camp, fans called the move a success for Atlanta.

“Fine swing OT to replace Storm Norton, shoutout Cunningham and Co. good trade,” one posted.

“Actually a good trade,” another replied.

    “Chiefs got fleeced,” one proclaimed.

Morris is a run-blocking specialist with an 83.2 PFF run blocking grade compared to just a 23.7 pass blocking grade. This hints that the Falcons are interested in helping out Bijan Robinson by prioritizing the run over the pass.

How Wanya Morris Fits With Jawaan Taylor’s Atlanta Falcons

By adding Jawaan Taylor first, the Falcons seemingly have the goal of starting Taylor and keeping Wanya Morris around as a depth piece. However, with both joining the team in the same offseason, the two could be heading for a starting competition.

The addition of Morris after Taylor also hints that Taylor didn’t show quite enough to have the full-fledged support of the team. Of course, some may argue the Falcons might have been so impressed with Taylor that the team wanted another Chiefs lineman. However, with Taylor joining the Falcons out of free agency, the history of both players playing for Andy Reid could be pure happenstance.

Either way, the Falcons have gotten two tackles richer and have hope to get at least one reliable plug at right tackle out of the two pieces.
