Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift stole headlines at the start of July in the lead-up to their wedding. It took place at Madison Square Garden on Fourth of July weekend and was the first notable national event at the center since the New York Knicks’ NBA Finals. Fans were greeted with enhanced, airport-like security at the event throughout the series, especially when President Donald Trump made an appearance.
Fans braced for similar security measures, but Swift and Kelce seemingly declined one security feature. According to a Thursday Wired report, the couple did not want to incorporate a facial recognition security system at the venue. It seems the couple was concerned with keeping themselves and their guests’ facial recognition out of any database, even if it was for their safety.
The report read: “According to the internal document, an MSG executive ordered on July 2 a seven-hour lockdown of the Garden’s video management system, made by the security tech company Genetec, ‘due to a client privacy request.'”
The report added: “Security staffers who ordinarily monitor the building’s internal cameras and the accompanying face-recognition software were barred from doing so. The memo states that only a handful of company leaders and engineers were allowed into their Genetec accounts. The rest were ‘disabled.'”
Internal security was as much out of the loop as most fans. The $6 million security system (per Andri.is) went unused and, in effect, might have kept the event even more private than a typical party.

While security cameras effectively went dark inside the venue, not every camera was banned. According to a Friday post report from USA Today, Kylie Kelce, Jason Kelce’s wife, set expectations for the release date for the media dump. She issued a message of patience but did not rule out the existence of plans for the dump.
Kelce’s comments came as she spoke about a conversation she had with a daughter and a father at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe earlier in July.
“One of them asked me, ‘Will there be photos posted?’ And I said, ‘Well, it just happened. You got to give them some time to bask in it. They’re in the honeymoon time,'” she said.
However, with training camp scheduled for Travis Kelce to take place on Tuesday, the honeymoon can’t last forever.
