Tom Brady knows a great quarterback when he sees one. The seven-time Super Bowl champion recently gave high praise to Los Angeles Chargers star Justin Herbert, calling him the best passer in the NFL. But the compliment came with one condition.
Herbert, who signed a massive $262.5 million deal in 2023, has long been viewed as one of the most talented passers in football. His arm strength, accuracy, and poise in the pocket have drawn comparisons to some of the game’s best.
But despite all his talent, the Chargers haven’t been able to turn that potential into consistent success. Injuries, coaching changes, and a leaky offensive line have held Herbert back from fully showcasing what he can do.
The NFL legend believes that if Herbert is properly protected, he has all the tools to outshine every other passer in the league. It’s high praise, but it also highlights a major issue with the Chargers.
“If they protect Justin Herbert, he’s the best passer in the league,” Brady SAID, as per Dov Kleiman.
The statement also reflects what many analysts and fans have been saying for years. When Herbert has time to throw, few quarterbacks can match his touch, timing, and ability to make tough throws look effortless. The challenge for Los Angeles is giving him that opportunity every week.
Brady’s comments add fuel to the growing belief that Herbert’s ceiling remains untapped. If the Chargers coaching staff and offense take Brady’s words seriously, they might be able to turn things around, and the world will get to see Herbert’s full potential.
If the Chargers can keep him healthy and protected, Brady might just be proven right, and the NFL could have a new standard for what elite passing looks like. Interestingly, Herbert wasn’t the only one who received high praise from Brady.
Tom Brady Praised Aaron Rodgers
On FOX NFL Sunday, Brady gave Aaron Rodgers his flowers. The 41 year old quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers has had a good season so far and Brady made sure he acknowledged the same with some high praise.
“Beyond impressed,” Brady said. “I think at that age, there are so many other factors that come into play about how to be a great quarterback. We all want to talk about what happens in the offseason with him, and there’s some things that are…there’s a lot of narratives out there. There’s a lot of [retreats]. It’s a little different.”
Brady outlined that his passing ability and killer instinct can’t be praised enough, but doing that at 41 is beyond impressive. In the first four weeks, the Steelers are 3-1, losing one game against the Seattle Seahawks.
