‘Don’t Do It’: Fans Warn Titans As They Schedule Ex Cowboys HC As Brian Callahan’s Replacement

Brian Callahan was fired by the Tennessee Titans in October 2025 after he led the team to a 1-5 start. A day later, Callahan was replaced by Mike McCoy as the interim head coach of the Titans. Since then, they’ve been looking for a permanent head coach.

The Titans want someone with credibility and a winning record so that they can improve their chances of making a title run in the near future. For now, they are eyeing Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy was fired by the Dallas Cowboys in January 2025. Since then, he has been out of a job. But McCarthy has a Super Bowl win on his resume, and he has decades of experience in coaching football, which makes him a good candidate for the Titans.

The fans, however, aren’t convinced. ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently posted that the Titans are scheduling an interview in Tennessee on Saturday with McCarthy for the vacant head coaching position.

Fans had a mixed reaction to this announcement.

“Poor TN don’t do it,” a fan wrote.

“How could Mike’s historical coaching performance in terms of playoff experience, quarterback development, win-loss record statistically shift the Titans projected offensive efficiency or overall win total for the upcoming season compared to their 2025 results?” a fan wrote.

“The Titans are not a serious franchise,” a fan wrote.

“Titans sitting 30th in offensive EPA at -0.16, dead last in success rate. McCarthy’s Cowboys went 7-10 last year with Dak—same old playcalling won’t fix Levis or that OL. Nagy over him all day if they’re smart,” a fan wrote.

“He’s gonna be holding the hot chicken menu in no time,” a fan wrote.

“McCarthy brings structure, not surprise. Is that what Tennessee needs right now?” a fan wrote.

Tennessee needs a little bit of everything right now. And considering their state over the last few years, McCarthy wouldn’t be a bad choice.

    Mike McCarthy’s Head Coaching Record

McCarthy first received a head coaching job in 2006 with the Green Bay Packers. He stayed with the Packers until 2018. Two years later, the Dallas Cowboys came to him with an offer and another opportunity to be a head coach.

In his two-decade-long career, McCarthy has a 174-112-2 regular season record. He is 11-11 in the postseason, and has won a Super Bowl in 2011 when the Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Titans were initially looking for John Harbaugh. He was arguably the best coach available on the market, and they wanted to sign him. However, he decided to go with the New York Giants, making the Titans shift their focus to McCarthy.
